Tarnished, your consciousness is being pulled into the Lands Between; the once peaceful lands between the two worlds. Against your will, your consciousness is merged with that of an enemy. Old School Gametime Preview

Old School Gametime is back! In a year where the NHL’s lockout has driven me to watch the Canadian Elite Men’s Hockey League (I should have learned to say Canadian in the first place), I found myself in an odd position: I had a lot of time on my hands, and, strangely enough, felt the need to polish my hockey skillz. It didn’t help much, but on the plus side, I grew rather fond of Stanislav Demin.

Despite being the best goddamn young Russian goaltender in the history of hockey, Demin got a pretty raw deal in the NHL. He only managed a single goal-against-average career full season as well as a 54.2% save percentage overall over two games during his time in North America. Nevertheless, the offensively gifted center became a third overall pick in the 2004 Draft, and between taking on the role of the head coach and increasing his pro experience, Demin’s averages have grown to a strong.922 sv% and 2.17 GAA in eight games.

Based on the hype, Demin’s Boston Bruins are a middling team, but the fact that NHL.com ranking them last in their division is based on wins (which they haven’t managed even once thus far) makes me inclined to give them a little more credit. Boston boasts the league’s 11th highest save percentage, tied with Buffalo, but is ranked 17th in goals against. I do trust

This is version 7. Other than the USA getting everything in January you'll be waiting an extra 10+ months for the U.S. at the minimum. I really didn't think I'd say this but I swear whenever these rumors pop up and they're actually semi-true like the mid-September release (which was supposed to be next week) I have an urge to finally return to the USA and demand some instant gratification to say I've waited long enough. DeNA = 3rd.Versadon = 4th.Rest = 6th.Thus directly comparing them. Still I didn't buy the Rest edition in December assuming it was going to be version 7. I really hope all the recent negative comparisons are unjust. I'm here for the story of course but these games have really paved a fantastic landscape for future games in this genre…user-friendly ones and the ones with big stories that I'd trade a minor inconvenience in play time for in lieu of the story.

Turns out there was a reason I was so invested in this game from the moment I first read about it on the PlayStation Store. I wanted to pick up the game because I was excited to try out the new multiplayer and online play modes that are being added, but also because I love RPGs and character creation (since I love being able to select my own character’s name, gender, and appearance), and because the idea of character progression really appealed to me. The game isn’t really a “fantasy RPG” in the way that people normally think of that term. It’s more of a fantasy action RPG, and as much as I would have liked to have seen more fantasy elements added to it, I can at least be grateful that those weren’t present this time.

The game focuses on players taking on the role of Tarnished Knights, who have suffered a great tragedy and now must acquire a piece of a relic to seal the Lands Between. The Lands Between are split into five zones, each of which has a handful of dungeons, and players must enter these dungeons to face the six bosses who inhabit them. Each boss has their own unique encounter system and weaknesses, and the main goal of the dungeons is to defeat them and then exit, with players encouraged to take on multiple bosses if they can, since the first boss fights have their own unique procedurally generated obstacles and mechanics that players can learn from, which can make the fight against the next boss easier.

After choosing the difficulty level, players can choose their class, which will determine their starting base stats, their combat abilities, and their general appearance. There are eleven classes available in the game, each with a unique class title and power, and players can decide to specialize in one or two of those classes, or to take an all-purpose neutral class that will be a bit stronger than other classes, but not as strong as classes that specialize in one specific type of power. As you explore the different Dungeons, you’ll eventually come across the equipment and NPCs that will allow you to build up your character. Each piece of equipment has a sub-stat called a mark, and this allows you to assign marks to armor, weapons, and other equipment. These marks are added at the end of each boss fight, and you can spend your marks to increase your base stats in order to better equip yourself, or you can spend them in order to unlock new skills. So it’s been about a month now, but THIS CHANNEL IS ALL BUT INACTIVE and I have finally had the time to reactivate it.

The reason WHY is that I’m quitting LWJGL, and from what I understand or maybe know, LWJGL can be called a nightmare for Java. Something like GLFW for C++ or a nightmare for the user. Sure it has a huge community of extension, but the way you start with the library is very problematic, and the documentation of the API is very bad. You will need to manage a large number of configurations and memory management is a hellish curse.

However, OpenGL is very powerful and I feel that having a bad experience with it would be a great opportunity for me to learn something new, and not about graphics or computer games, but about computer graphics.

So what is LWJGL? It’s like GLFW, if you think that you’re going to need to write a lot of low-level C++ code to render some OpenGL thing, you shouldn’t use LWJGL.

But if you just use the API and focus on getting a simple to use Java Renderer going, and you just need to render some simple things on the screen, and what you need from the moment is the OpenGL API and how to use a 3D library for Java, you can easily use LWJGL, and you will be happy.

I think that many Java developers get confused because they are not only writing Java code but also writing “shadow” C code under the hood, and they feel as if they are doing something wrong. They don’t understand that Java is an environment and a language for compiling your code.

A new era for Nuggets?

The Nuggets have decided to address their roster needs by bringing in Timofey Mozgov from Russia.

Mozgov, who is 6’11 with 9.9-second wingspan and soft touch in the post, might not be the most explosive player on the floor, but he gives the Nuggets a versatile, 7’3 lefty big who can also play center. The team has put him at the power forward spot, which will probably help his rebounding numbers.

Mozgov averages only 2.6 points per game and 4.2 rebounds, but he’s a big part of the league’s second-best defense.
