Photoshop has an active user community and an abundance of resources. It’s a platform that will grow with you as you learn it more.
Disclaimer: The purpose of this article is not to give the reader an in-depth knowledge of Photoshop, but to provide enough information so that you can use Photoshop to its maximum potential. For in-depth knowledge of Photoshop, I recommend the Adobe Photoshop CS 6 Master Class by Michael MacDonald.
Photoshop can be intimidating at first. Many people who use it for the first time spend hours looking at the menus and options, wondering what they are for and whether they need them. In the end, the main functionality of the program is explained in a few short paragraphs in the Help system.
Photoshop is powerful because it gives users tools to change and transform a raster image. It is that power that makes it easy to manipulate images on a very fundamental level.
The first thing Photoshop does when you open the program is scan your image. This is similar to the way that a photographic camera scans a photo. It takes in a digital copy of your image so that it can make changes to it.
The next thing Photoshop does is set up your workspace. You can create and save multiple levels of layers, including layers that contain transparency. You can also create clipping paths to help you select your image elements and convert them into layers.
Layers are the main and most useful tool of the program. They can be shaped and moved and resized without worrying about how the effect will be seen in the final image. You can move layers one by one and resize them, even individually, with a precision that will impress even the most demanding professionals.
After the layers are created, they can be formatted with the text tool, which allows you to shape and format text in any way you wish.
You can trim sections off to leave out any excess elements in your image. You can highlight parts that you wish to keep and add a border, as well as change its color and even add a drop shadow.
With layers, you can either work in the order you create them or choose to work with them in whatever order you wish. You can turn them off and on as necessary to edit them whenever you need to. The steps you take to create the layout of your image is up to you.
The last part of the process is saving your work. If you do not save your work regularly, you will lose

She is a blue-and-white long-haired domestic cat with a silky blueish face and the most beautiful eyes… But she doesn’t like other cats in the house: they are pretty much allergic to her fur. I put her in my room, and I can’t wait to take her on a walk. I love her and how she greets me at the door with a purring sound… I think I’m in love with her. I’d like to find a photo of her too, if you know where to post it. Sorry for my bad English.
I thought about putting that link on your exchange post, but thought you’d already posted it. You can post a link to that page in a comment here. I try to keep the posts lean, meaning that if I have a four or five different people I’d like to thank, I’ll just list a couple of them, and add a generic appreciation or thank-you at the end. I’ve noted in bold your «additional thank you» lines. I’m very busy tonight, however, and so I hope my apologies for any rude sniping.
Check out the Website for photos of all the cats I’ve received
The easy way to insert text into an image is to use the Text tool. Type away!
Although you can create most text by typing, the fast-and-easy method is to use the Type tool.
With the Type tool selected, click the text you want and begin typing into the placeholder box. Photoshop automatically positions the type.
